Hats & Horses

The hats at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic were a sight to see! A little known fact: women in the UK do not don hats to polo matches but stateside, our affinity for hats was largely influenced by Julia Roberts’s role in Pretty Woman.

To keep with the American tradition, I dug out a hat I made a couple summers ago. I found a super cheap floppy hat and got some flowers and ribbons from the craft store. This hat cost about $15 total, but manages to look chic and not home-made, I hope.

I opted for a simpler hat, which I find remniscent of Audrey Hepburn.

Yehua needed the extra brim since her post lasik eyeballs were still quite sensitive to light.

I was walking around taking photos of my own, when a snapshot of my hat was taken for Inside New York. Yehua texted me, “Your hat is going to be on a blog!” but alas, it didn’t make the final cut.

Like the editors from Inside New York, my favorite hat was hands down the stylish mom-to-be!

Here are some other surrepitious shots I took…being a lady comes in handy when taking sneaky shots of strangers…I was being a creepster but no one was the wiser.

I paid more attention to the hats than the horses, but for all you polo fans out there, here are some action shots!

It was a last minute decision to go this time and many people had to cancel last minute, but next year I plan to have a group of decked out gals & gents! Wanna join in?

xoxo

Disney Power Hour

My friend Lauren is hosting a Disney Power Hour tonight, and I couldn’t think of a better hostess…who could love Disney more than her, other than her mom Cheri? I hate to break it to you Walt, but the answer is no one!

Check out her Disney Blog and amaaaaaaazing power hour video!

Orginally I wanted to go as Snow White, because I like sweeping and eating apples and running through the forest (not), or wait…maybe it was because Monica already had the full costume for me to swipe? Regardless, after a wonderful wedding weekend with a Jasmine smitten bride (she found her Aladdin too!) and a night of Aladdin Sing-Along at the Bellhouse last night, I decided to ditch the 7 dwarves and go for some magic carpet action instead (Too much? Disney is full of sexual inneundos too so just go with it).

So last night I got to work and made my costume and Aladdin’s vest too! I borrowed lots of bumps its for my hair, because “A Woman’s Hair Is Her Crowning Glory” according to the guys who wrote the Bible, according to Tina Fey. And as recognizable as Jasmine’s everyday coif is, I think we all agree when I say that she looked waaaaaaay hotter when Jafar gave her a makeover.

I’m shocked that Jafar is even interested in women, but I guess back in the day in Agrabar, you couldn’t be a sorcerer and gay…that’s just asking for it.

Here’s a picture of my  last minute costume…and accessories of course!

I made little pointed booties to go over my flats…hopefully they stay on for most of the evening…

Here are pictures from the event!

I’m Baaaaaaaack….

Oops! I didn’t realize how long it had been since my last post!

April was a really busy month! Last weekend I was in Roshni’s wedding, and the weekend before that was my 5 year college reunion (yes, Wash U people are a bit obsessed with each other).

I’ll have new posts coming soon, but for now, enjoy the beautiful colors of Roshni + Chetesh’s Guju Wedding!

The wedding was beautiful and I am so blessed to be apart of it!

Stay tuned for new craft projects!

xoxo

More Mad Men Please!

Having a successful themed party means paying attention to all the details: creating a playlist, appropriate decor/food/drinks, warning the neighbors, etc.

Nina, aka my “life coach,” had the brilliant idea of playing the TV series (muted) in the background. I made a playlist of 1960s music and the mood was set. This post is dedicated to her, because without Nina’s help, my apartment would still be a work in progress.

To warn the neighbors (and to bribe them not to shut down the party), I made a goody bag and hung them on their doors. The added plus was that guests saw these hanging on the doors as they walked to my apartment. The bags contained blueberry flavored chocolate covered pretzels…say that three times fast.

The “bar” included a suggested list of 1960s cocktails so guests could feel free to follow tried and true recipes or get creative. I also made Mad Men-esque labels for the different mixers.

Next I kept the food simple; I wanted clean up to be hassle free the next day. I choose a variety of finger foods and for dessert, just simple chocolate covered almonds and Godiva chocolate (no messy crumbs in my apt…except for the cheesy poufs I myself sprinkled all over my apartment purposefully…to demonstrate the strength of my vacuum cleaner? I don’t even know what I was thinking).

veggie tray from sahadi

blurry…but the spread contained: cheesy poufs, mixed nuts, cheese, olives, crackers, banana chips, soy blast mix

spanikopita, spicy humuus & pita, crispy chocolate filled wafers

I’m surprised so many people dressed up. Everyone looked great! We managed to squeeze 40+ people into my apartment. I wish I had more pictures of everyone, but we were all too busy mingling to take photos.

(L to R: Cousin Charlie + April are sooo blurry but I love it anyway. Gilly made the long trek from UES, Nat from UWS and Ev came from right across the street. The Tuesday Ladies assembled in the kitchen; Steph came all the way from Chicago!)

Thank you to everyone who stopped by. I love you all dearly. It really meant a lot to have you there to celebrate the purchase of my first home (or to attend my homecoming as YY likes to call it)!

Shout outs to (in order of appearance…I think?) Rachel, John, Jenn, Jenny, Eric V, Wes, Audrey, Nat, Mark, Sasha, Edison, Abe, Jen, James, Mathieu, Luke, Aman, Stephanie, Nina, Nicole, Lara, Jennie, Evelyn, Yehua, Eric E, Alan, Lauren, Elyse, Dre, Desiree, Angela, Paula, Kasia, Matt M, Charlie, April, Matt, Drew, Dora,  Justin, David, Klay, Alex, Denise.

And as I have some pointers from this party, I can’t wait to plan the next one! Party theme suggestions welcomed!

xoxo
